Homework Expectations
Requirements
- Your child will choose an independent reading book which is teacher approved. Reading for a minimum of 20 minutes each night is a requirement for each student. A parent or guardian is required to sign a reading log nightly and the log must be returned to teacher each morning. The supplied log will include a page for organizing notes and responding to daily questions. This book will be used to create a book project which will be completed in class. There will be at least one project due each term.
- Reading fluency assignments will also be given regularly.
- One math homework assignment will be given each night.
- On occasion, Science or Social Studies research or study will be assigned.
- The time your child works on homework nightly should not exceed 1 hour, in accordance with our school policy.
Consequences
If the student does not do their homework they will work on it Friday in a quiet supervised room during our “Fun Friday” activities. This does not include homework turned in late due to excused absences caused by illness or other family issues.
Homework is a skill that not only reinforces learned academic skills, but also teaches responsibility and commitment. Completing nightly homework allows us teachers to assess student understanding. Being successful at following these expectations creates a feeling of self-confidence within your child.
